Certification Renewal

Your certification will be active for a 2-year period, at that time you will be asked to follow the Scrum Alliance renewal process.

To renew the certification, individuals must achieve and record 20 SEUs (Scrum Education Units) and pay a renewal fee.

Professional Development Units (PDUs)

The also course earns you 14 PDUs (Category A) within the PMI. PDUs can be used toward PMP, PMI-ACP and other certifications.

This training course focuses on the role of a Product Owner (PO) and their ecosystem. The course begins by introducing the Product Owner ecosystem and providing an understanding of what a Product Owner is and the demands of their job.

The next section delves into the Product Owner role itself. It explores the significance of the Product Owner title and outlines the responsibilities that come with it. Participants gain insights into a typical day in the life of a Product Owner, understanding the tasks and challenges they encounter.

Participants learn what a Product Strategy entails and examine a real-life example to gain practical insights. The course also discusses how a Product Strategy evolves within an Agile organisation, highlighting its importance in driving product success. Top tips from experienced Product Owners are shared to provide valuable advice.

The relationship between Product Owners and stakeholders is explored in the next section. Participants learn about the dynamics of this relationship and discover techniques for identifying stakeholders. Effective communication strategies with stakeholders are also discussed, emphasising the importance of maintaining strong connections.

To provide a hands-on experience, a simulation or game is included in the course. Participants learn the importance of focusing on value and differentiating between outcome and output. They get to experience the Product Owner role from idea to inception, working in a Scrum team under time pressure while emphasising the significance of achieving desired outcomes. Additional top tips from Product Owner experts further enhance the learning experience.

Understanding customers and users is a crucial aspect of being a Product Owner. The course emphasises the importance of connecting teams directly to customers and embracing the concept of failing quickly to learn and iterate. Various product discovery techniques are explored to enhance customer understanding and enable effective decision-making.

Working with the Scrum team is a vital part of the Product Owner role. Participants learn how to collaborate effectively with developers and understand the "duty of care" towards the team. The course also addresses the concept of Technical Debt and emphasises the need to remove it.

Scaling the Product Owner role to work with multiple teams is discussed, and additional insights and tips from experienced Product Owners are shared.

Cognitive or unconscious bias is explored in the course, helping participants understand its impact on the Product Owner role. Different types of biases are discussed, and self-reflection is encouraged to mitigate their influence.

The course also covers the topic of validating assumptions. Participants learn from a case study and gain an understanding of how to validate product assumptions. They learn to identify the riskiest assumptions, develop hypothesis statements, and plan experiments to test them.

Advanced backlog techniques are discussed to help participants better understand the Product Backlog and its importance. The course emphasises respecting and advocating for the backlog as a Product Owner.

Understanding value is another crucial aspect of the Product Owner role. Participants learn to define value in the context of product development and explore techniques for modeling and measuring value.

The course also covers common anti-patterns and smells in the Product Owner role, enabling participants to recognise and address them. Scenario challenges faced by Product Owners are discussed, and the role of the Product Owner in Scrum events is explained.

Overall, this training course provides a comprehensive overview of the Product Owner role, covering aspects such as strategy, stakeholder management, customer understanding, working with the developers, biases, assumptions, backlog techniques, value, and avoiding common pitfalls. Participants gain practical insights and valuable tips from experienced Product Owners to enhance their skills in this important role.

Who is Eligible to Attend?

The course is open to all individuals, regardless of their background or experience. However, in order to obtain the A-CSPO certification, the following criteria must be met:

  • Hold a Certified Product Owner (CSPO) certification issued by The Scrum Alliance, regardless of its current validity status (current or expired).
  • Have at least one year of work experience specifically in the role of a Product Owner within the past five years. This experience can be acquired after attending the course, and upon completion, the full certification can be obtained.

If you do not meet the above qualifications, we recommend considering the entry-level Certified Scrum Product Owner course, which has no prerequisites and serves as a preparatory step for this course. Additionally, exploring opportunities to gain more experience as a Product Owner would be beneficial.

Who Should Attend the Course?

We highly recommend Product Owners or Product Managers who are already Certified Product Owners to attend this course.
